Children’s dentistry – a positive early start.

The best way to encourage strong, healthy teeth is to teach your youngsters good oral hygiene and make sure you introduce them to the dentist at a young age, ideally when their first teeth start to peep through. This will help them feel relaxed about attending appointments and you will also learn the most effective ways to care for their developing teeth. You can pass on these handy tooth care tips to your child when they get older and begin to brush for themselves.

For extra protection against tooth decay, we can apply a fissure sealant to newly emerged permanent teeth. This clear plastic coating seals the narrow grooves on the chewing surface of the back teeth to stop harmful bacteria from entering and causing cavities. We can also use fluoride varnishes to strengthen enamel and make teeth more resistant to decay.

We have a very approachable dental team who are used to looking after little teeth. We are keen to make your child’s appointments fun and stress-free because a positive early dental experience can help ensure they develop healthy teeth and keep them that way. If they are unfazed about coming to see us, they will be less likely to avoid dental appointments in the future and continue to take proper care of their teeth.

To ensure early oral health, you need to play your part in caring for your child’s teeth too. In addition to regular visits to the dentist, you can help them develop good brushing skills. Initially, you will brush their tiny teeth and then, as they get older, they will be able to do this alone – with supervision and guidance from you.

A mix of regular dental check-ups, a good oral hygiene routine and a healthy diet will help keep your child’s teeth looking and feeling great throughout their younger years and beyond.
